ONPA workshop & convention at Kent State, April 11-13

After and extended stay in Columbus the annual ONPA convention and workshop is moving to the campus of Kent State University, April 11 - 13. All events will be held at Franklin Hall on campus. The weekends events are free for ONPA members and students.

Events will kick off late Friday afternoon with the judging of the annual still contest. Judging will contine Saturday and continue through the day until that process is completed.

Following the judging there will be portfolio reviews by the judges and other Ohio photojournalists.

On Sunday the workshops will take center stage begining at 9:00 a.m. and should wrap up around 4:30 p.m.

This year's faculty includes: Sue Ogrocki from the Associated Press, Dave Weathermax from The Herald in Jasper, IN, David Larson from WBFF in Baltimore and David Stephenson, freelance photojournalist and the Photojournalism Adviser for the University of Kentucky’s student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel.

Kyle Robertson is 2013 ONPA clip contest POY

There’s a new clip king in Ohio after tabulating results from the October and December clip contest.

After finishing second for the past two years in very close competitions Kyle Robertson from The Columbus Dispatch won the 2013 contest with a comfortable 262 point margin.

Eamon Queeney from The Dispatch placed second in the contest jumping up from eighth place, scoring 324 points in the final two months that were judged to leap frog co-worker Adam Cairns who held second place for the better part of the year.

Eric Albrecht from The Dispatch placed fourth with last years winner Lisa DeJong from The Plain Dealer placing fifth.

The entry rules for the annual ONPA Televsion Contest are now avaiable online. Entry links are to be submitted via e-mail to contest chairman Anthony Mirones by midnight February 21, 2014.
