Warriors Journey Home

Laura Fong Torchia, a senior visual journalism major at Kent State University has embarked on a three-week mission to chronicle the Warriors Journey Home ministry as they travel to Vietnam.

Five Vietnam veterans are included in the group as they take the opportunity to return to a land under very different conditions than they once encountered.

Squillante, Humel named Ohio SPJ Best Photographers

Fred Squillante from The Columbus Dispatch and Chuck Humel from The (Elyria) Chronicle-Telegram were recognized as Best Photographers in the 14th annual Ohio SPJ Awards.

Squillante was the winner for newspapers over 100,000 circulation. Ed Suba Jr of the Akron Beacon Journal placed second. Humel was the winner for newspapers under 100,000 circulation.

Kent State University's School of Journalism and Mass Communication was putting together and exhibit of Squillante's work from his 2009 ONPA Photographer of the Year portfolio when the SPJ award was announced. The exhibit has been expanded to include work from both competitions.

The show will be at the third floor exhibit space at Franklin Hall on campus. An opening reception is Friday, Oct 8 at 7 p.m. Squillante is a 1981 graduate of Kent Sate University.
